ADD/ADHD

I have spent five years teaching in an elementary classroom where I have encountered several ADD/ADHD students. It has been my role as a teacher to help them be successful students by teaching them how to focus during instruction, how to get organized and successfully complete assignments, and to manage time and complete assignments on time. I have tutored several different ADHD students in which we worked on study skills, getting organized and mnemonics to help them remember and to jog their memory.

autism

During my five years of teaching I have had three different autistic students in my classroom. Two of them were upper elementary and with those students we worked on basic skills of writing and communicating effectively in the classroom. I taught them work on a modified level and also taught to their APTA standards that they were expected to learn. This year I had a kindergarten autistic student and we worked on getting the student ready to learn, teaching him procedures and appropriate classroom and schoolwide behaviors. He was taught to work and meet our expectations and then he would be given a reward or special privilege.
